Women

Welcome to the ASCC’s resource hub for women seeking to further their education and succeed in the workforce!

Our goal is to support you in your personal and professional growth. Here, you’ll find information, and resources to help you reach your goals.

The need for these resources is substantial as the evidence for gender inequality in employment in the United States is overwhelming and well-documented. Women continue to face systemic barriers to equal pay, promotion opportunities, and equal representation in leadership positions.

Please consider the resources on this page or make an appointment with us to address your concerns, work through challenges, and strengthen your application materials.

Legal resources:

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) enforces federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person’s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.

TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund provides support for women and men who have experienced workplace sexual harassment.

The National Women’s Law Center – Provides resources for how to deal with discrimination and access to healthcare.

Washington State Women’s Commission – A legislative representation commission where members of the public can bring issues to be heard and considered. A substantial resource library is available through the commission, including resources on how to report legal violations and harassment.

Professional organizations:

National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) – “is the unified voice of over 11.6 million women-owned businesses in the United States representing the fastest growing segment of the economy.”

Lean In – an organization founded by Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, to empower women to achieve their ambitions.

Washington Center for Women in Business (WCWB) – “The WCWB seeks to “level the playing field” for women entrepreneurs. Women in business still face unique obstacles, and our goal is to connect hands-on expertise and lived experience with those who want to sharpen their edge in business through mentorship or education.”

Support and advocacy groups:

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) – “is the nation’s leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls.” Free membership for enrolled college students grants access to various career and educational resources including salary negotiation guidance.”

Girls who Code – A gender equality based online resource for high school to college level support of women in Engineering disciplines.

81 Cents Resource Library – “This is a library created by social enterprise startup 81cents and maintained by a community of 2,300 hiring managers, recruiters, and accomplished professionals with the expressed purpose of increasing pay parity.”
