Center for Intercultural Learning and Affirmation (CILA)
Community Leaders
The Community Leader position is critical to the work of the Center for Intercultural Learning and Affirmation (CILA). This position will intentionally engage in culturally informed and student-centered strategies to increase the access and success of all students at WSUV.
Responsibilities include coordinating outreach; partnering with campus and community groups; representing CILA in committees mentoring and serving as a role model for students; creating and facilitating culturally relevant workshops; assisting with large-scale cultural programming; collecting and analyzing data; and completing general office tasks.
While we aim to accommodate all disabilities, we may not have the knowledge to do so. Please expect to work with the Accommodation Center (in addition to your supervisor as you feel comfortable) to develop some guidelines to help us meet your needs.
Compensation and Hours:
- $ 17.79 an hour
- Looking for students who are available 9am – 12pm or 3pm -5pm
- Opportunity to work 10-12 hours a week.
- Open to all WSUV students, but work-study eligibility preferred
- Flexible scheduling around classes and other responsibilities. There will be some weeks/periods of time during the semester with a higher workload and some with a lighter one.
- Our expectation is that you work CILA events when not in conflict with your classes and hold at least 10 office hours, 3 days a week. These are scheduled at the beginning of the semester by your supervisor and are adapted to your schedule as needed/possible.
Please note that this position start date is summer 2026 (typically early July). While we are willing to be flexible to accommodate your other commitments, we train our staff in the summer in preparation for next semester. We need all staff ready to go by then!
Overview of Position and Responsibilities:
- Plan and facilitate monthly community-building event (CILA Socials)
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate (as necessary), the monthly CILA Dish-It-Up lunch and learn round table discussion series, including topic selection as appropriate and outreach to potential faculty, staff, and student discussion leaders
- Provide logistical support for CILA’s large programming including (Latine/x Heritage month, Disability Awareness month, Indigenous Heritage month, Black History month, Women’s History month, Asian and Pacific Islander History month, Lunar New Year, and other events.
- Mentor 4-8 students, including completing monthly “check in” meetings
- Regularly attend weekly team meetings
- Perform data collection and assessment, including event attendance lists, pre- and post- event surveys, and broader campus communication through the CILA email
- Represent CILA at Student Involvement Fair, New Cougs Day, Orientation, etc.
- Represent CILA during collaborations with on- and off- campus partners, including TRIO, MESA, Admissions, ELCA, CCB, SAB, ASWSUV etc
- Maintain general cleanliness, organization, and upkeep of CILA space, including inventory & storage

- Strong passion for and experience in mentoring new students
Required
- Have the ability to maintain office hours at least three days per week
- Maintain good academic standing during academic year (minimum 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA)
- Enrolled in at least 9 credits of WSU Vancouver coursework during each academic semester
- Available to participate in 4-5 days of THRIVE Program in August (may include overnight[s])
- Available to work some New Coug Orientation events
- Availability to participate in approximately five-week summer training
