Setting goals for the upcoming semester

Reflecting on your grades this semester, do you feel content with your performance? Take a couple of minutes to evaluate the past semester and ask yourself if there is any room for improvement, if not, consider what factors contributed to achieving your desirable grades.

As the winter break approaches, it would be wise to create a schedule and plan for the courses you will be taking. Reading the course material beforehand can be beneficial, especially if you tend to procrastinate toward the start of the semester. Now take 5-7 minutes to write down or think of some steps that may be needed for you to achieve your goals. For instance, how will you hold yourself accountable if you want to spend some time studying but want to go out and hang out with friends? An option could be locking your apps on your phone, studying in quiet areas, and joining study tables. After completing your work, you can treat yourself to a night out with friends knowing that there is no assignment hanging over your head.

If you struggle to manage a schedule, how are you able to change that, below are some tips  that can help you get started

  • Write a list of important tasks that must be completed during your day
  • Set reminders for yourself of when the assignments are due and when you want to start them
  • Attend study tables so you can get help if needed
  • Hold yourself accountable for your actions
  • Plan around your academics/schoolwork
  • Start a planner
  • Check your Canvas account/calendar
  • Communicate with staff if you are uncertain about the material, etc.

By implementing these steps, you can increase your chances of success for the following semester. It is important to remember that there is always time to make positive changes in order to achieve your goals.
