3 Summertime Branding Tips for Fall Recruiters

When it comes to recruiting, the sooner you start, the better. Here are three quick tips to start brand-building with WSU this summer.

  1. Connect with contacts at the Academic Success and Career Center and other campus partners for updates on WSU Career events.

Did you know that ASCC has all career partner contacts at your disposal just a click away? Check them out here!

Summer is a key time to connect with career staff at multiple WSU colleges and campuses. At WSU alone, there are about 12 different Networking/ Career Fair events each semester in addition to the Career Expo. Contact Campus partners and ask about the students you want to connect with. There may be additional engagement opportunities that present themselves if you inquire.

2. Use your company’s WSU interns and working alumni to get insider connections!

Did you know you can create virtual events on Handshake and invite students? Check out these resources on how to do this here.

If you have Cougs working for you this summer, you are in luck! Consider leaning on them for suggestions for this upcoming recruitment. Your interns and alums are a direct way to connect with their sororities, fraternities, or student clubs. Inquire about the possibility of attending a club meeting to offer professional development topics such as “Networking in Early STEM Careers” and “How to Prepare for an Interview in a Non-profit.”

3. Invest now in preparing your booth for the diverse hires you are looking for!

Need ideas?

  • Add prominent signage that says “We Hire All Majors” or lists all the majors you will hire.
  • Add prominent signage that says “We Hire CPT/OPT” to attract international students to internships.
  • Stand in front of your booth and not behind it. Try to proactively engage with students as they walk by or reach out to them before attending a virtual event.
  • Change up swag for in-person events. Consider savory snacks (Hot Cheetos, anyone?) or Maybe $5 Gift cards if they attend a post-event meet-up.
  • Have an interactive component to the in-person booth. For example, “Spin the dial” for a prize or a playable game at your station.
  • Coordinate with campus partners to set up a post-event meet-up somewhere on campus before or after the fair, for example, “Tacos with Tech” or “Government Jobs for all Majors with Company Name”.
