Security Officer for the Rutgers University Police Department

>> My name is Yang Cho Chow [assumed spelling]. I graduated in May, 2014. I'm currently a security officer here at Rutgers New Brunswick, and I majored in criminal justice. Right now I'm working the night shift, which basically my shift runs from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. It kind of messes with your social life and your sleeping pattern because when you're sleeping, people are awake, and when you start working, that's when people start either going out or going to bed themselves. Once I clock in we usually start with a briefing. We go over what -- any special high priority things we have to look out for, for the night. We also talk about certain events going on, on campus to have a bigger presence there so students know that we're there and they feel a little safer. Once we go out on the road I do everything from locking up buildings, some ticket enforcement. We also do security escorts for people who maybe live off campus or even on campus and they just don't feel safe walking on their own. And we also do stuff like helping disabled motorists with jumpstarts. It's basically just to be an extra pair of ears and eyes for the police, and we just want students to know that we're here to keep them safe.
