Executive Director of Police Services, Chief of the Rutgers University Police Department

>> My name is Kenneth Cop. I work for the Rutgers University Police Department. My title is Executive Director of Police Services; Chief of University Police. It's [laughter] a variety of things. And it depends on the day. I am technically always on call. So it could start early that morning before I even get to work with phone calls. But it's -- I'm dependent a lot upon my people. Upon who I work with. But I have oversight of the Rutgers Police Department. I work with the Newark and Camden as well. What I do, I'm ultimately responsible for safety and security here at Rutgers. I have oversight of our investigations unit. Our patrol division. Community policing. A big part of our job is to educate the public; educate the Rutgers community. Because, you know, our biggest concern is the safety and security of the community. I would say there really is no typical day. It's kind of what needs to be handled. There's a lot of prioritization that goes on. And that's kind of how I handle my day. But I deal with everything from crime that's going on, on-campus -- on-campus and off. Because we have a good working relationship with New Brunswick Police Department. We're a unique setup here. You know, we have building -- there may be a break in campus property, but then there'll be a building there. So, you know, we have kind of -- we're unique in our setup, but I have both that responsibility, in terms of directing, you know, how we're going to handle crime. But I have a lot of in-house responsibility for personnel. You know, hiring. Promoting. Dealing with personnel matters. So that's a big part of my day as well. Policy. Everything's changing. And we have to adapt to new laws; new regulations. So that's a big part of my day as well. Make sure we're doing the right thing out there.
