YAI supports people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities in achieving the fullest lives possible by creating new opportunities for living, loving, working and learning.

People in YAI’s Supported Employment program remain on the job for an average close to eight years, filling roles in retail, healthcare, hospitality, and office services. With skills-building activities that range from volunteer activities to pre-vocational training to on-the-job coaching, Supported Employment helps build careers. YAI’s employment program also conducts trainings that encourage employers to hire job-seekers with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

About the position:

We are hiring a part-time floater Employment Training Specialist (Job Coach) to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) establish and pursue their employment goals throughout NYC.

ETSs provide job coaching, on-the-job and vocational training and assist in the improvement of communication and socialization skills through regular visits or direct supervision of the people we support at their workplaces across assigned region(s), virtual and one-on-one meetings.

Location(s): Various community sites in NY (travel required).
Schedule: Part-time, 20 hours weekly, M-F 9a-5p with flexibility for occasional evenings/weekends.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support people with I/DD to set and achieve employment goals
  • Provide pre-employment counseling and on-the-job coaching
  • Help build communication, social, and job-readiness skills
  • Visit job sites to monitor progress and provide support
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For:

  • High school diploma/GED; experience in vocational or disability services preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet physical demands (lifting up to 25 lbs, travel across region)
  • Completes necessary trainings, including OPWDD approved vocational rehabilitation or supported employment training program and annual retraining(s) where applicable.
  • Tuberculosis test necessary for most positions.
