Sahale Outdoors is seeking passionate and energetic Day Camp Instructors to lead hands-on outdoor learning experiences for youth during our summer day camps (June 22 – August 28). At Sahale Outdoors, we believe that meaningful time in nature builds confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging. Our camps introduce children to the natural world through exploration, creativity, and skill-building in local parks and outdoor spaces.

Day Camp Instructors play a key role in creating safe, welcoming environments where youth can discover nature through activities such as wildlife exploration, geology investigations, nature art, outdoor skills, and environmental games. Instructors help campers develop confidence, teamwork, and respect for the outdoors while fostering a lifelong connection to nature.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with youth, spending time outside, and creating engaging learning experiences that inspire curiosity and adventure.

Duties

  • Lead engaging outdoor activities for youth ages 6–12
  • Supervise campers and ensure a safe, inclusive environment
  • Support nature-based learning through hands-on exploration
  • Encourage teamwork, curiosity, and respect for the outdoors
  • Assist with daily camp setup, cleanup, and program materials
  • Provide basic first aid when needed and follow safety protocols

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth (camps, schools, childcare, tutoring, etc.)
  • Enjoy working outdoors and leading active groups of children
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Interest in environmental education or outdoor recreation
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

Sahale Outdoors is a mission-driven nonprofit expanding access to outdoor education for youth across Pierce County. Our camps inspire curiosity, leadership, and a sense of belonging in nature.

Spend your summer working outdoors, inspiring kids, and making a difference.

Pay: $18.00 – $22.00 per hour

Application Question(s):

  • What is something in nature that you think is really cool, and how would you share that excitement with a group of kids?
