Position Title: Digital Content Producer
Position Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
Each Digital Content Producer for our family-owned company is expected to share in the same baseline job description. You will report directly to the News Director, who will decide on scheduling and evaluate your performance relative to the job description, as well as other managers. Our operation is based on a story-centric workflow. That means we prioritize story treatment across a variety of platforms, from our linear broadcasts to our streaming services, as well as social media and our digital properties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Gather, create and post content accurately and timely onto digital platforms in support of our digital strategies. These duties include writing web stories, managing placement of content on the website, and posting to our social media channels.
- Write headlines, conduct interviews, edit and publish videos, and increase SEO and shareability of all content.
- Meet analytics-based goals and help convert digital users into television viewers.
- Constantly update news stories on our websites and streaming platforms. Help produce breaking news as it happens.
- Work with reporters and photographers to gather material that will enhance digital stories.
- Engage with and monitor our social media platforms and audience. Cull social media sites for comments and content to help drive and enhance our editorial process.
- Track story developments, both local and national, and communicate with the newsroom throughout the day.
- Assist Content Managers by fielding phone calls, listening to police/emergency scanners for breaking news, and communicating with officials as needed to confirm developments.
- Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed AP style and formatting guidelines.
- Ensure that all digital content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum one year experience at a live commercial media outlet preferred.
- Degree in Journalism, Communications, English or similar program preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong editorial judgment and a proven ethical foundation.
- Expert understanding of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
- Understanding of AP style and Search Engine Optimization techniques.
- Availability for big breaking news coverage on unassigned shift.
- Strong writing skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines to write headlines and copy for our website, and clip and edit video for our streaming platform.
- Exemplary communication skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and with others in a team environment.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Office Tools: Understanding of Microsoft Outlook email and calendar management.
- Content Management Systems (CMS): Experience with web publishing platforms to manage and upload digital content and send push alerts.
- Broadcast-Specific Software: Familiarity with newsroom systems such as ENPS or iNews.
- Research Tools: Ability to use online research tools, databases, and search engines effectively.
- Live Streaming: Familiarity with live-streaming platforms and video conferencing tools like Zoom or Teams.
- Data Analytics (Optional): Basic understanding of tools like Google Analytics to analyze audience trends.

- Ability to adjust tone and vocabulary for diverse audiences and platforms.

- Ability to engage authentically with viewers and build trust through effective communication.

Reasoning Abilities
- Strong critical thinking skills to evaluate sources, analyze data, and make editorial decisions.
- Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources for clear, logical reporting.
- Sound ethical reasoning to ensure fairness and adherence to journalistic standards.
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting for extended periods of eight (8) to ten (10) hours per day.
- Manual dexterity in operating equipment and computers.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment
- Primarily indoors in a newsroom setting.
- Frequent exposure to medium or high noise levels.
- A fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom environment.
