Are you already thinking about your next opportunity? Burns & McDonnell is collecting information now for geotechnical engineering candidates that are interested in potential 2027 internship opportunities.

Fill out our interest form tied to this Handshake posting to get ahead before our formal applications come out in the fall! A master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering is strongly preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuit of Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering related degree from an accredited program.
  • Pursuit of Master’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited program strongly preferred.
  • Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community.
  • Basic knowledge in standard geotechnical engineering techniques, principles and procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic computer skills include geological analysis programs (e.g., Ensoft, FAD) and AutoCAD.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
