Start Exploring Internships Now

Follow these steps to begin your internship process.

  1. Meet with a career coach during drop-in hours, or schedule an individual appointment via Handshake to:

    • Explore your interests, skills, and values to determine the type of internship to pursue.
    • Receive guidance on where to look for internships, how to network, and how to develop your own internship.
    • Practice your interviewing skills.
    • Learn how to conduct an informational interview with a professional in your interest area.
  2. Draft a resume. Stop by the Academic Success and Career Center to have it reviewed by a career coach during drop-in hours. (See Student Resources if you need help getting started.)
  3. Log into Handshake , upload your resume and create your profile. Check Handshake regularly to review internship listings and apply for opportunities.
  4. Look for internship announcements in your academic department or meet with the internship coordinator for your major.
  5. Attend relevant ASCC workshops.
  6. Participate in career fair events and follow up with employers of interest. Over 130 employers attend each Career Expo (career fair). Many Expo employers have internship opportunities available!
