First-year students, here are 5 things to help you prepare for Spring Career Expo

Are you looking for your first summer job or internship?

WSU Career Expo is a great opportunity for first-year students to explore your interests and potentially find a passion or skill set that you can pursue during your time in college.

The Expo also provides an overview of the different majors and fields of study available at the college, as well as opportunities for summer jobs, internships, networking events, and more.

Attending the Career Expo is the perfect way to get ahead in your career. We have over 250+ employers who are coming to Pullman this October.

There are a few things you can do to prepare for a career expo:

  1. Research the event and employers attending – keep in mind the industry you’re interested. Always study companies and employers that you want to work with prior to attending the event.
  2. Prepare your resume – keep in mind the employers and the type of position you’re interested in. Make sure to edit your resume extremely. It must be clear and concise in the eyes of employers
  3. Prepare your elevator pitch – the elevator pitch is a 30-second summary of who you are, what you’re looking for, and what can you do to help the employer’s business grow.
  4. Prepare contact information – Make sure your contact information is in your resume, or you can design a business card to exchange contact with employers.
  5. Dress for success – it’s always important to dress professionally and look polished when presenting yourself to potential employers. This will help give them a better impression of you as a person, which could lead to landing one of those coveted job interviews.

Don’t forget to follow up with employers or any person you talked to after the Career Expo. Follow-up is crucial to keep your engagement with employers and increase the chance to get hired once you apply for an opening position.
